It has just been announced that Cadel Evans will make one final appearance at the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under before retiring next year!
Cadel confirmed at a media conference at the UCI Road World Championships inÊPonferrada, Spain, overnight that not only will he retire in 2015, but that he will join his BMC RacingÊteam at the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under Ð making his tenth appearance at the event.
ÒCadel may have some unfinished business here in Adelaide, after he was beaten by fellowÊAustralian Simon Gerrans by just one second in this yearÕs Santos Tour Down Under,Ó said Tourism Minister Leon Bignell.
ÒAll Australians are proud of CadelÕs achievements, and during his nine appearances at theÊTour Down Under he has certainly become a crowd favourite.
ÒConfirmation that heÕll be racing with his BMC Racing team in the 2015 event should generateÊeven more national and international interest. It will be great to welcome him back to AdelaideÊfor the final time.Ó
CadelÕs Tour Down Under record includes winning the Subaru King of the Mountain jersey inÊ2002, 2003 and 2006, and the Young Rider jersey in 1999.
Race Director Mike Turtur said heÕs thrilled Cadel had decided once again to compete inÊAdelaide in January, making the Santos Tour Down Under his last UCI WorldTour race.
“Cadel is a champion of our sport. HeÕs AustraliaÕs only Tour de France winner and road worldÊchampion. We cant wait to welcome him back to Adelaide, and knowing him heÕll be comingÊnot just to compete, but to win,Ó he said.

The 2015 Santos Tour Down Under is held in and around Adelaide, South Australia from 17-25ÊJanuary 2015.
