The oldest of the four major professional sports in the US, Major League Baseball (MLB) has a total of 30 teams who play at the top level in the American League (AL) and National League (NL), with 15 teams in each.

The Baseball year begins in April, with the regular series, and runs through to October – November, ending with the World Series. Each team plays 162 games throughout the season, with five teams from each league making it through to the postseason tournament, the winners of which play in the World Series.
