The 2017 event will feature over 300 riders from 35 countries competing in the cross country (XCO) and Downhill (DHI) disciplines.

Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said hosting the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships was a highly anticipated event that would showcase Cairns and Tropical North Queensland to a global fan base.
“With one year to go, Cairns is already gearing up for an event that will bring thousands of fans and spectators from around the world to Tropical North Queensland,” Mr Crawford said.
“This will be a wonderful showcase for Cairns as our beautiful region is broadcast to the world.”
The 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, by Cycling Australia with the support of the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland and the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing, in partnership with Cairns Regional Council, James Cook University and Tourism Tropical North Queensland.
